I'm sorry if this comes out as mean, but wtf... I love playing tall and build up my lands for over 100 year, carefully weighing the interesting new building options to get the buffs I want, using the cool capital development options like "survey the capital" or "perfect world" (I beliebe... the discipline trait with the capital buff) as well as getting ADDITIONAL building slots! like how cool is that. I built all of this rejoicing at my +23 gold net gain a month when OUT OF NOWHERE this black death devastation comes around destroying EVERYTHING (well in the high and middle devastation counties at least) including the 7 capital building aside from this special duchy building stuff ... what the ♥♥♥♥... I thought that maybe theyll come back after waiting the debuff time out... which was like 15 years or something but NO... that was a massive ragequit moment.. and im angry.
I will say though if there was anything that I could've missed with this event, which makes this SOMEHOW a fair event to counter or lessen the effects of, then I this is my fault and i will apologies for it.

how about disablling the building for like 5 or hell make it 10 years... but them being gone, dead, basta... that's just cruel mate I worked hard to build and level those up.

at least you can disable that in the settings ... but my campaign is dead now... I'll have to bite the bullet and start a new one...
