where do I find the ancient weapon research and ancient weaponry texts?

Late to the party, but I've found several of them in various ruins (can't remember the names; sorry), usually guarded by tough enemies. Try the Workshop Complex in The Grid or the Infested Lab in the southeastern Swamps.

Great Library and Tech Hunter places sell 1-2 books and the research can be looted easily from ruins and labs. The ruins in the SE corner of Deadlands and also the ruined outpost in Venge have free research completely unguarded.

Indeed, looting ruins is the only "consistent" source of such items...
