Mod set-up for Ellis Common Infected (response to brother3886)

This will mention things you most likely already know, but I have included them anyway to inform other people. I know this message is a bit late, however, better late than never!

Thank you, I plan on making a more original mod sometime, but I made the Ellis Common Infected as a joke and I started getting requests. Once again, I thank you.

You said that you are going to try this Ghost Bill Common Infected mod as it is easier to install the mods required, I do have to admit that the Francis Common infected is a pain as the model requires sv_consistency 0, but the Ellis Common Infected should be rather simple to install. The Ellis Stories Zombie Sounds mod does say to read the description, and the description says that you need GCFscape to unpack it, but this isn't necessary. First off, GCFscape is third-party mod software, which means there is already an official mod tool meant for the same purpose (you can get the Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools on Steam, however, you most likely already know this). GCFscape has a better user interface, but (unlike what most people say) it isn't really required as either A. you could use the official tool OR B. the mod works fine or at least decent without unpacking it, not to mention you have to download GCFscape from a heavily outdated and insecure website. What you can accomplish with GCFscape can already be accomplished with official tools, it will be harder but it is a lot safer than going to a little known insecure website to get third-party software. The author of the Ellis Stories Zombie Sounds has said in their comments that the mod can be used without unpacking it but it will sound distorted or sped up and make screeching sounds, but I have only heard audio distortion and screeching for a little while when I first tried the mod and I haven't had problems since (if anything, my Ellis Common Infected mod is a lot more broken). You should be able to use the Ellis Common Infected mod without any problems or additional set-up. The Francis Common Infected requires consistency set to 0, but I am thinking of making an update to change the model to a more glorious one. I hope I made some things clear enough, and I hope you can try to use the Ellis mod. You should have no problems whatsoever with Title of the Mod or Older Mitchell, just only use one as they both replace Nick.

Off, I'm a bit confused. Should I continue to write here? I'm confused because, first, I didn't see any response from you that you mentioned in comments. And second, everything in this discussion is about Ellis, but not Bill. Anyway I'll try to write here and see what happened

The idea to take the long beard from this Bill and attach to CI Bills just to see easily who is bad Bill and who is not. If any Bill will have a long beard - shoot him, lol

Any chances to have just any (not ghost) Bill as CI? Maybe you can take hospital Bill and without any changes, that will save your time, just make him as CI? It will be a lot of fun if it will be a lot of patients in a gown on sTreets. It will look like psycho patients ran out of hospital, lol

I'll consider it. If I do make it, then the difference should be noticeable enough. I can't guarantee that I'll make it and that I'll make it very soon, but I may make it.

Poor me... Fans of Ellis, Francis and even coach have their characters as CI, but not me... All I have is a ghost... Why the life is so unfair... Bill is best of the best, but for some reason the boring characters like Francis or coach got their chances to be cloned...

Sorry, to interrupt your life, but I really wanna share the idea that I had for years. That's the version of Bill as a helicopter pilot. You know, I just see him as a helicopter pilot so clear, he fits this position so well, that I can't understand why nobody did it already. And I know this for sure, because I track all mods for Bill.
You know, there are models for Bill with aviator glasses. Bill with aviator glasses is a 110% ideal for helicopter pilot:

I appreciate your attention to detail! Yeah, I can do that, I'm not sure if it would work perfectly, but I'll try it when I can. I'll let you know when the Bill pilot mod is done.

I thought you were fine with Ghost Bill, and I said I'd make a normal Bill mod if you wanted. Well, I might make the normal living Bill mod for you.

(Also, the first common infected mod, Ellis - Common Infected, was actually an intentionally broken joke mod [hence the A-poses and glowing hair]. I started making the other mods to be nice when requests appeared)

I'll let you know when the Bill mods are done, in the meanwhile, I hope you find some enjoyment in the Ghost Bills.

Sorry to say that, but I failed badly in trying to install ghost bill CI. I took all three necessary parts (your part, shadow horde part and ghost Bill model). And I got just invisible commons. I can shoot them, but they are invisible. If possible, can you make final Bill as a standalone mod, with all necessary additions included? It will help a lot for a dumbs like me, lol

And thank you so much for the promise to make pilot Bill! I wasn't sure that you will agree to do it, but when I wrote the post few days ago, I wanted this so much that I decided to convert existing pilot voice to Bill's voice. There's conversion of Bill's voice on workshop that makes him talk like through radio. First, when I replaced all the files by the new ones, it didn't work. I got a lot of screeches. Then I just copied the files to game folder and made snd_rebuildaudiocache. It worked! Unfortunately it works now only for l4d2 campaigns, I need to find out the problem. Anyway, I can provide the working part of Bill's voice for your future pilot mod. Your mod will be amazing! Imagine that - Bill in aviator glasses, he talks as Bill and his voice is transformed by the radio. Five stars!

I apologize about the invisible Bills. You can get invisible infected if you use my other joke infected mods but without the required model, as they use the same vertex file and if there is no vertex file (included in the required model) then the infected model won't work properly. You have the required model (with it's vertex file) installed and enabled, but Ghost Bill is unique in that it requires certain shader settings to appear and have a ghostly effect. Here is the explanation copied from the description of Ghost Bill (don't be hard on yourself about missing it, it was included at the very bottom. I used to be hard on myself about missing things but I realized it wasn't a big deal):
"The shaders of this mod are dependent on your video settings using the highest level of anti-aliasing and texture filtering to work correctly, or else you won't see anything. If you have a low-end machine, this mod will use an alternate shader. It won't look quite as nice but you'll still get a reasonably ghostly result."
So, if you increase your video settings, then the Ghost Bills (both Survivor and the Common Infected) should appear.
I apologize for the confusion, and if increasing video settings causes any inconvenience.
