agreed... they're too good you end up relying on them too much. same with SoS2 shuttles
I myself would make it so so that you have to do some upkeep with droppods, and there's a slight chance for them to be blown out of the sky with heavy enemy forces, so you have to mount a rescue party and more often than not just withdraw while leaving everything behind.
one of the reasons i really like the Android Tier's mechanical beasts of burden, can build a whole army of robo-pack animals to trade with. its not as good as using the shuttles from SOS2 but honestly those are so powerful they trivialize everything else.
