Allow hunting pacts with hunting animals? / They hunt together for the same animal, mostly to decerease the chance of them getting too hurt (im just spittballing here)
aRandomKiwi  [dév.] 20 déc. 2018 à 11h03
this feature already exist, hunting animals can pack with close others animals of the same species to hunt the same animal, note: the animals that make up the pack needs to have learned the hunt and must not have hunt recently (no grayed "force hunting" button icon) and be close geographically (all this is adjustable in mod settings).

I would like to see some kind of setting for forming packs when hunting specific animals. Something like "only hunt animal xyz in a pack of at least x" or at least a "only hunt in packs of at least x"-setting.

I often see them form 2-4 packs when hunting a hare while they hunt alone when hunting something more dangerous like ibex ram/doe. This often results in my animals being downed by the ibex

@Icranox : I tried reproduce your example but I did not succeed, pack of 2 ( pigs in this case) are correctly formed when hunting ibex as expected, can you tell me what is the type of hunter in your two examples ? Do you use the latest version version (3.0.4) because there have been improvements made in 3.0.4 regarding pack formation.

Normally there is no need to specify in detail the number of animals in the packs for a particular predator kind, because the algorithm will automatically deduce the number of members in the pack to avoid injuries, ...unless there is a bug, but I have not managed to replicate your examples.

@Icranox : There is actually as you tell me a bug in the pack formation for supervised hunting ( number of assistants not adapted to the strength of the prey ).

Fixed in 3.0.5.

I can not really add the feature you described, because setting X hunter for prey type Y can not work, because X depends on you hunter type (eg: 3 wolf can handle a bear, while 3 pigs can not. ..), however would it be interesting to add a parameter to force the minimum number of animals in the packs ?

Configurable list of "cat" pawnkinds? Some mods adds other cats.
aRandomKiwi  [dév.] 4 janv. 2019 à 11h21
yes it's a good idea, I did not question myself if there were mods adding more cat pawnkinds, do you have examples of mods so that I can test and add this option ?

I can't find updated cats mods for 1.0 on workshop. Hardcore SK modpack has extra domestic cat kinds.

Very useful mod thanks for sharing. Perhaps animal health could be factored into prey selection. For example my Warg with 2 legs and no jaw did not do well when it decided to hunt a non injured Warg. R.I.P semi crippled Warg.
aRandomKiwi  [dév.] 17 janv. 2019 à 14h37
Good remark ! I can reproduce this, disabled warg can hunt healthy warg and so get totally destroyed...

Currently i imitate vanilla behavior when wild predator hunt to feed onself, by taking 3 variables to compute for prey and predator a score to determine targeting or not (base attack, fresh health state and body size).

So i propose to take into account also the average of the following levels of capacity (which are affected by removed or injured body part) to adjust the score :
  • consciousness
  • manipulation
  • moving
  • sight

What do you think about ?

And also my condolences for your semi crippled Warg ... xD

Thank you for checking it out. If it is not too CPU resource intensive that sounds like it would be perfect.

Perhaps if the calculated score drops below a threshold (considered useless as a hunter) a alert could be issued suggesting a peaceful retirement in deep freeze storage for that hunter.

@Zed : I updated the mod (3.1.0) with the new score computation formula, and so no more disabled warg hunting healthy warg ( unless he can form a pack ).
I will look for your second suggestion.

Thanks aRandomKiwi, that was very quick!

Is it possible to make a compability patch for the Let's Have A Cat Mod? Their cats don't hunt automatically like vanilla cats
aRandomKiwi  [dév.] 24 janv. 2019 à 20h23
@[LkZ] Oken, @TGC : Done, add new setting "Animal list considered as cat" ( with Vanilla cats and all cats from "Let's Have A Cat!" mod added by default) in the latest release (3.1.1).
