WW1 Source was already tied to the Source engine, would you rather Ashton and co start from scratch on Unreal 4 or Unity, and delay the project even further?
Porting to DOI was the absolute correct choice. It provided a stable platform that wasn't a million miles away from the original WW1:S vision, and the meta tweaks work well.
Either way, I still believe NWi will come back, sooner or later, to improve DOI as well as SS14-18 at the same time.
