Economy and income as Rome.
So I'm a decent way into my Rome campaign (Year 127 BC) (N/N) and I'm starting to notice major problems (imho) on how the economy and income/game mechanics work in this mod.

1) Income from trade agreements is way too high: players inadvertently gets accustomed to this income to pay for building/army upkeep only to realize breaking this trade agreement to expand your empire will cost you (in my experience) up to 20,000 gold a turn; creating or exacerbating deficits.
2) AI does not develop resources: negates one of the benefits of trade with AI factions - giving you access to needed resources. This forces the player to expand their empire to acquire these resources. Leads to the first problem listed prior.
3) Provincial building upkeep costs too high: little point in building past the second or third building tier. Even then, upkeeps are very high.
4) Provincial corruption: it is very high. For example in Italia for me it's 78%.
5) Overall provincial income: negative. building upkeeps and corruption result in the majority of your provinces losing money hand-over-fist.
6) Legion upkeep too high: 10,000 gold/turn for one full stack Marion legion?

Other concern(s):

7) AI does not attack your settlements even if they have numerical superiority. In fact, they don't really attack your field armies at all, unless they have a ~2:1 advantage. This is easy to exploit and results in you taking settlement after settlement without having to fight their armies in the field.
8) Every town/city battle is a siege battle. Initially early game this was cool, but now it's getting a little tedious.
9) Auto-resolve battle is messed up, results in staggeringly high casualties for your legions.
10) When do we go from a republic to an empire so I can get Augustian and Imperial legionaries?

In summary: I love the mod, great work guys. I have an empire that essentially resembles the starting position of the WRE in vanilla, have 1.6 million in the bank, but with a deficit of 12-40k a turn. To expand further I'll need more armies (= more upkeep) to gain more territory (= plus building upkeep and corruption) which at this rate will bankrupt me. I don't know what to do. Any assistance will be helpful.

Also if the map ends up only being a few major powers. Remember to liberate new factions.

Can get like 2,000 per turn in trading with some single settlement factions if you have a good tariff bonus.

With the overhaul coming into the economy we can't really worry about it too much. Hopefully todays patch will flesh it out a lot more.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. Many of these concerns have been knocked out for the new update. The first five points on the economy have been adressed, hopefully to everyone's satisfaction. The AI has, in my own playthroughs, become more opportunistic with recent changes. Garmatia and Maessyli (spellcheck) were for instance consistently inclined to take on a battered Scipio in Africa; Barbarian tribes up north would often launch incursions into Italia.

The issues with auto-resolve are known and will become a matter of focus to fix.

In terms of walled cities, I've launched a discussion on the tester's & team's communication platform. Personally, I'm inclined to agree. Walled cities could be tied to a certain main settlememt level or a certain building (e.g Garrisons) for minor regions. The subject needs much consideration, but I appreciate the suggestion and welcome further feedback.

I guess I will have to wait for the update but I feel that Rome's economy is too bipolar in the early game. You start off with a food shortage and a minor income then the food shortage is fine the next tun and have a good income and then desperate food shortages and major deficits the next turns all the while all of the provinces have major public order penalties, even in Rome and no armies besides Scipio's in Carthage and a minor one in Spain leaving nothing to gaurd against the gauls in Italy. Compare this to the Seleucids who are practically a walk over to play with a massive income and virtually all provinces happy and those that arents are easy to improve
