Maybe have it function like the burst shot special you see some common shotguns use, instead of just a weaker shot that does far less damage?
Aside from that, maybe a classic 1-handed revolver with richocheting bullets?
Also, a balance suggestion: the SMG does excessive amounts of damage for how fast and accurately it fires (along with it's placeholder energy cost). Maybe make it lose accuracy as the firerate goes up, or make it use enough energy that you can only maintain the full firerate for maybe a second max?
I'll tweak the energy drain for the SMG and maybe nerf the accuracy as well.
