Tin of coffee and others:
One that stands out to me.

Tine of coffee = Can of coffee. Who says tin of anything in US?

Without discussion of plus or minus reasons like that other thread.. lets list some ideas here?
This is a good humor one to me. :)
'murr'EE'cans. Ya' ll others talk funny.

I call it "Tin of Coffee" if its in a metal can, and "Can of coffee" if its in a plastic container. Why? I have no fricken clue. But some people call it Tin, if its a metal can. Maybe a nod to the olden* days* where cans were made of tin, and everything was a jar or tin?

Maybe, but that sounds very very local to me. But, being from WVa lol, we have more than a few turns of phrase that make zero sense to anyone outside of the ' hills '.

Calling it a "tin" of anything is sure sign you've got a commie.
ParGellen 2017 年 11 月 29 日 下午 6:31
I've lived in many parts of 'Murrica and can verify nobody says "tin" of anything. You do have some idiots running around saying "turrents" though. Those people make the rest of us very sad.

I've never heard of tin of coffee, but I have heard coffee tin.

It was always a "tin of coffee" in my house if it was small or the can was poorly made.
It was a "can of coffee" if it was larger in size, was the better brand, or was made of tougher metal.
It was "the damn coffee" if you were desperate for it.

Granted I've never lived anywhere other than utah but I have never heard an american call any type of can a "tin" except altoids like someone else brought up. Also jerry can might be used in america but I've only ever heard people call em gas cans.

How many thing's of coffee do you people have at one time to make the container so important? In my house we just call it coffee because we have one can or tin or tub or whatever of it so the container doesn't matter.
