DOWN Railroad DSM-ASD-2 Class Heavy Steam Locomotive

Kuvaus
Welcome Engineer, and congratulations on being assigned your new position! We are eager for you to begin your conscription at the Democratic Operational Worker's National (DOWN) Railroad of Aridistan. In the meantime, please read (or have read to you) this brief guide on your new locomotive, lest your managers flog you.

Class Overview
Thundering at speeds up to 80 km/h while pulling heavy loads, the DSM-ASD stands as one of the oldest members of DOWN Railroad's fleet. Originally built in the 1960s, these locomotives have served for decades past their intended retirement, proving their worth across the harsh desert landscape of Aridistan.

However Engineer, we must caution you: The DSM-ASD Class is many things, but modern is not one of them. Despite the class-wide upgrades which added automatic firebox control, the locomotive does not include things like: cab signalling equipment, passenger controls, or even dynamic brakes over the MU system. This can make operating with modern equipment difficult, but we have trust in your ability to meet deadlines. Failure will result in flogging a citation.

Startup
Note: A tender is not required due to the built-in water tank, tenders and locomotives can be chained in whatever configuration you would like.

For more information, see the full reference manual
All Units
  1. Connect both fuel and water between every connected unit and tender
  2. Close the cylinder drain ♥♥♥♥♥, located on each cylinder pair
  3. Open the firebox fuel supply valve, located on the firebox inside the A side cab
  4. On the main control panel, located next to the driver in the B side cab, turn on the main battery, main panel, and drivetrain relays
  5. On the same panel, turn on the feedwater pumps, circulation valves, superheater valves, and exhaust valves
  6. Turn on the firebox regulator and wait for the superheater to reach around 300° and the boiler to reach at least 50°
  7. Turn on the dynamo and piston feed valves

Leading Unit
First set up all units as described above, then set up the unit you intend to drive from as described below
  1. On the main control panel, enable the relay for the cab you intend to drive from, as well as the dynamic brakes relay. You are currently sitting in the secondary seat in the B side cab
  2. Navigate to the cab you intend to drive from
  3. Enable the MU system master key, located to your left and down on the leg of the desk
  4. The MU system error light will blink once as a test, ensure it does not stay solid. If it does, disable master on all other TCP vehicles in the consist and try again
  5. Use the reverser keys to shift between neutral (indicated with -), forward (indicated with F), and reverse (indicated with r)
  6. Configure the lighting switches to your desired position*
  7. Use the brake lever located to your left to slow down
  8. Push up on the throttle lever located to your right to cycle through the 8 power notches, and pull down past the 0 position to cycle through the 8 dynamic braking notches (this assumes the dynamic braking relay is enabled)
*It is standard Aridistani procedure to run with headlights and ditch lights enabled, using high beams as needed. Failure to do so on Aridistani lines may result in an execution a citation
