Beskrivning

An add-on mod trying to add a bit more player interaction.

The Mod
I wanted to make a lightweight mod that mainly uses Rimworlds own mechanics and still makes the research a bit more interesting other than just standing still behind the research bench 24/7.
The mod makes use of Rimworlds own mechanics, making simple research require Research Papers, high-tech research requires Research Data, etc.
I tried to balance it to fit vanilla game as much at possible.

You start out by collecting samples from whatever resources you have laying around, at the new Research Sample Bench. Creating Samples that are used to examine, write Research Papers, and Assemble Data for research.

Needing research papers and data to do your research will make pawns need to do other things than just standing still at the research bench, as they need to collect and write.
And as Collecting Samples require two different skills, you need to have either one good pawn with general knowledge in multiple skills or have multiple pawns work together on collecting samples within each of their skilled areas.

Making research a job where you now need resources and multiple skills or pawns to work effectively and keep an eye on your use of papers and data.

Collecting resources, making samples, papers and data, etc take time and make researching take longer. But it is possible to get multiple research bonuses from the new Sample Bench that link to research benches, Schematics that work as drugs, and a hard-to-get Archotech Analyzer. Making actually research speed faster than normal.

The game has menu settings for recipe costs and data consumption for all paper/data types and buildings using them.

26-09-2025
Just did a new update.
If you are still getting the ".dds" errors in the log, you may need to unsubscribe from the mod, make sure manually that all the files from the mod in the Steam workshop content folder are gone, and then resubscribe to the mod again to get the new files.
And do the same for the add-on mod if you are using it.

Tried to fix a wired bug with IngredientCount and Subcore Scanner.
Its a test so let me know if it happens again.

After many requests from people, A LOT of tries, failure, and learning, I have managed to add settings to the mod.
Added settings for all paper/data recipes.
Added settings for buildings' paper/data consumption rate.
Hope you really like it.

Huge update to the backend of the mod to make it run better on 1.5 and 1.6
and to prepare for adding mod settings (Only 1.6 get settings).
If you run into errors, let me know. Remember to re-sub the mod.

This is RR: Stepping Stones research spot which replaces VFE Tribals research spot.

Then you are using some other mod that makes the spot require papers. i have left that out for a reason.
And for the Research Bench there its placed in the tech level i do not think i change that from vanilla.

But i can put it on the ToDo list to look if there are any wird things with VFE Tribals but its not going to be right now :)

No, I cannot use a research spot without research papers.

The second option: Simply move the research sample bench to “culture” research.

In my previous message, I was meaning "Research Bench" research, not the "Crafting Facilities".

@Malware Not something i will do right now.
But you can use the spot without research paper in VFE Tribals so you do not need the research sample bench at the start.
The research spot has very slow research so you will need to switch later on.

Can you add compatibility with VFE Tribals + Research Reinvented: Stepping Stones?
What I mean is: put the functionality of the research sample bench in the research sample spot with increased manufacturing costs, and move the research sample bench in Crafting facilities research.
Why? It's a little strange to see a research sample bench available earlier than a regular table.

I think the description image may have a typo: While "expansive" (covering a wide area in terms of space or scope) does not seem wrong, I think it is used like it wants to say "expensive"

I just wanted to say this is one of my favorite mods. It adds EXACTLY enough vanilla-style game mechanics on top of regular researching to make it feel great.
