描述
INTRO

Just a small test to see how far is it possible to go in SE with a train using more realistic way to move than athmos thrusters...

Last changes :
- Added a blueprint for the Bogie so you get a sample of settings (look for starmind / bogie)
- Added curved rails 1 for 90 Left turn + 1 curved junction, its ugly with angles but it's the workaround for no concave support
- Added up / down rails
- Latest setup : 75m/s using speed 100% (power 100 strenght 10%) on propulsion, and adding 5 propulsion (5%/ 5 %) to the stabilizer, with 0 friction on stabs, and the size 100 rails.


!!IMPORTANT!!

RAIL SIZE MATTER!!! so dont use size 1 block on 1 block for copy paste, the gap between 1x1 will kill your speed, use biggest rails when you could!!! If you paste 20 1x1 your train will just "jump" and stuck. Also try to match train main a little smaller than the biggest rail.

Rails size, wheel size will often change to adjust and test behaviour untill the good ratio about size and placement is found, you could loose current block placement / train placement

In order to reduce this side effect, changes will be done on the wheels first, and rails only will have rather shapes updates

By now what we have :



1 Straight rails bock (1*1) Avoid using it as it's pain for wheels if too many, use big ones instead
1 Straight rails bock (10*1)
2 curved huge rails bock for left and right (x*x) : under test, maybe it will be needed to make them far bigger at end (bigger loop) and will see if a 1x1 is possible)
2 curved huge rails bock for Up and Down (x*x) : under test, maybe it will be needed to make them far bigger at end (bigger loop) and will see if a 1x1 is possible)
1 standalone rail Large and small (use it as is it or on small grid with rotors so you could turn / angle and use others wheels.


1 Custom suspension (1,5*1) with PROP in name : for speed
2 Custom suspension to stabalize bogie, this will be workaround to physic test untill another method is found, still need tweaks to be usable (1,5*1)
All theses 3 have the "inside" version too in order to include them in bogie

1 bogie, this will offer 2 slots for the 2 suspensions types. Placement inside bogy is rather limited so you should offset the suspensions see screenshots and use the right / left accordingly

1 wheel (steel one and not a normal wheel) for normal speed
1 wheel (steel one and not a normal wheel) for stabilizing

All with basic textures and under tests

1 Bogy blueprint also is included

SETTINGS :



Wheels friction (propulsion only from 30 to 60%
Wheels friction (stabilizer only 0%)

Use a ship to drag and drop a train on the rails
For stabilizer put -30 on align first so you could place the train then go for 0 or even 10 to stick on rails, add strenght like 20 to push

with the first set of rails train could move


Curved rails is a difficult and time consuming subject so it will come after all others blocks

Decals and colors will be later.

edit 2 :

Finally i got it working! Not sure if all was needed but settings in blender : 2 rigib body for collision, few space between them, 0 friction on the gard / stab(but obviously friction is not used in export) and both have convex hull. So not sure what new from others tests anyway as no big change.

Now i will fix the "attach" part of rails as one small gap between them make the wheel jump (+- real issue btw)

edit 3 : Use the Bogie now to add the "inside suspensions" 1 for movement called boggie_suspension_propulsion_inbogie and 1 for stability called boggie_suspension_stabilizer_inbogie

see the bogie picture for sample of good placement, an put the suspension big part on UP

TODO After main issue is solved (friction / movement) :

- Curved rail to turn right or left
- Up / Down rails
- all textures
- Update the boggie & suspension & wheel model to fight together as 1 block (visual) > use the blueprint for sample

Note : real rails are about at least 40 large block longs... and climbing is max 2.5d

Feel free to duplicate this mod if you want to keep saved you tracks (each time i update rails it will wreck or kill several of your built railway) or give a try yourself on this idea. If possible let me know what you found so i could update here.

make long time i didnt play this game so hard to confirm but you could try in editor mode to call the blueprint "Bogy full" it's the last one added to the current cube block. You could also cut one of the current one from the Trains of the save game that is at end of the Description post and make a blueprint from it. Idea is that custom suspensions have to be added inside the bogie and this will allow to pop up the steel wheels. For stability it's a subway model with the 2 horizontal small wheels.

Also you mentioned a blueprint in the description, where you referring to the bogie block? If so could you provide proper blueprints for each bogie setup? If that's not what you meant, I can't find a blueprint in your workshop for the bogie.

No problem, I know this kind of modding is harder. I meant just fine tuning what you already have anyway. Specifically I've noticed that the 1x2, slope top, and slope bottom have black rails. Any chance you could fix that?

And by the way, in order to keep the current mod and saved unafected by any further change, best is to duplicate this mod and use your own local copy.

Hello Dragon Fire 813. Sadly no plan as any change on existing blocks will wreck existing saves (as rails will not fit or explode) and as far I could see there is no way to achieve this goal (working rails / wheels and buggy) without scripts as current engine limits are still sames and not about to change (10 body only by item, and only concave shapes). If someone have a suggestion on another way to draw concaves rails shapes or make theses working in a realistic way I will update, but by now I dont see any more way to do it.

tip dont insert them in the "hole" its a little down / left if i remind and do this on each side once (so only 2 suspensions by boggy

Idea is that you have rails, then main "boggy" block and 2 parts to add to the boggy to get the wheels, best is to use a ship to lift the train you build then you could add the missing boggy / wheels or design some sort of piston control block. Its a little hard to figure out how to place the wheels / suspensions the pictures could helps a little or re use the ones in the savegame.
