Updates
11.03.2025 - Elder Veneration, Defenders of Dievas, Totem Spirits, and Hogon Traditions tenets now make adherents less likely to become infirm (these are all doctrines that give bonuses at age 50+).

10.29.2025 - Updated for 1.18.x.
  • Because of the addition of an another Main Doctrine, I have decided to split off some Main Doctrines into a new category called Interfaith Doctrines.
  • This should work fine, doctrines don't care about what "group" they are in except for UI purposes as far as I can tell. But I am reluctant to say that with 100% confidence. Please report issues or oddities you notice.
  • This could, potentially, reduce mod compatibility somewhat due to UI file overwrites. I doubt all that many mods will be affected, but I apologize if I broke compatibility with your favorite mod.
  • Mingism gets the Mendicant Preacher tenet (so it has 3 tenets properly).
  • Gothaithaya Ngai has access to the Ekeraa tenet (because they are the same religion as Waaqism).

  • For the relationships doctrine category, faiths that accept both female and male adultery will now start with Polyamory. All other faiths still start with Holy Matrimony.

Description
This is an expansion of my Tenets to Doctrines mod, which in addition to changing certain Tenets into Doctrines, adds an assortment of new Tenets which are specific to particular religions. Also added an additional game rule that changes the doctrines and tenets of religions to include these new tenets when the AI manages to reform a pagan faith (this happens rarely, but it can happen). This option is enabled by default, but you can disable it if you prefer. You can also choose to start the game with all of these tenets integrated into unreformed pagan faiths.

Many of the tenets were inspired by the special doctrines from Crusader Kings 2's Holy Fury expansion. While I use them for inspiration, they are not one-to-one conversions. For example, the Stability doctrine allowed you to spend Piety to improve the skills of courtiers, and this feature carried over to doctrines like Children of Perun. Instead I chose to integrate skill improvements into various doctrines in other ways.

In addition to combining tenets to make them feel more powerful and impactful, this mod also aims to make various religions feel more distinct from each other. Keep in mind these tenets are not available on the base faiths, they are intended to be added by reforming the faith (except when using the game rule noted above).

Features (v1.0.9)
  • Integrates Tenets to Doctrines (see above).
  • Pagan faiths have access to new Tenets. All but one of these tenets are locked to one or two specific religions. They often combine elements of one or two tenets with each other, or with new benefits.
  • Normally, to unlock these tenets, you must reform the faith and select them when choosing new tenets for the reformed faith. However, a game rule can add them from the start. You can also control whether or not the AI will gain these tenets if they reform a pagan faith using the game rule.
  • These tenets may unlock new decisions, buildings, and traits.
  • A detailed list of features, including a list of the new tenets and what religions can choose them, can be found here here[docs.google.com]. Also contains detailed compatibility information.

Compatibility
Unlikely to be compatible with other mods that affect doctrine or tenet selection, or add new tenets. See above link for more compatibility information, including which files and database entries are overwritten.

@WINDYCASTER The former, you should not run both as they won't be compatible. But this mod already has all the features of Tenets to Doctrines.

So to clarify, is this mod a larger version of "Tenets to Doctrines", or should I run both if I want that mod's features as well?

This mod is now up-to-date and should work just fine with the new update. I don't know yet if I want to add new tenets for the new unreformed pagan religions. Most of my inspiration for tenets came from CK2, and these religions were largely not represented in CK2. With that said, I may still choose to at least do so for some of them. However, I need to work on updating Medieval Matriarchs for the new patch now, and that's going to be a larger and more time-consuming process, so I can't promise anything soon. With that said, any reported bugs or other issues you observe I will put a priority on fixing ASAP.

I will be updating this shortly, probably within the next 24 hours. I ran into a bit more trouble than expected when updating Tenets to Doctrines, which I wanted to get done first.

@Iecerint I'm not sure about Muslim enhancements; not familiar with the mod. As long as it doesn't add any new tenets or modify the same doctrine categories it should be fine.

As for Gnosticism, I considered it, but the Gnosticism tenet is very powerful with its stat adjustments. I wasn't sure if I wanted to have that as a doctrine slot and ended up not doing it.
