Welcome to the GeTA Sulfur! (the "Geo-thermal Tranz Alpine" railroad)
This is a fictional railway located in Darby County that connects the town of Oatery and the alpine village of Serro Geo.
As well as passenger services, the railway is primarily used for moving sulfur out of the two alpine sulfur mines (Hotrocks mine and Hope Fault mine).

- - - The steam era - - -

The alps of Darby County are rich in sulfur deposits, and contain active volcanic zones. The first settlement in the area was the alpine village of Serro Geo, which was soon connected to the main rail network via a simple single rail line that climbed all the way from the town of Oatery up to the village.
This rail line was simply called the "Serro Geo Alpine Rail Link" and was only used to move passengers and supplies to the newly developing alpine town.

Not long after the lines construction sulfur mining started in the area, and the rail line quickly became the backbone of a blossoming sulfur mining industry. Around this time the railway was given the name "GETA" (Geo-thermal Tranz Alpine) due to the geo-thermal activity in the area.

The first sulfur mine to open was the Hotrocks mine.
This mine was built in an active volcanic zone, and was incredibly hazardous for workers due to extreme heat and flying rocks from volcanic forces. This mine had its own branch line built off the main line in the Brent gorge.

At this stage the whole railway is still operating in the steam era, but with the introduction of diesel motive power the railway quickly upgraded and started moving away from steam.

- - - The diesel era - - -

The railway re-branded to the "GeTA Sulfur" (the sulfur mining company that is now the primary owner of the line) and the new fleet of diesel DA-class locomotives carried the new branding.

Not long after the beginning of the diesel era, a new mine was opened to mine sulfur from the Hope fault (a ruptured earthquake fault-line, which held massive sulfur deposits). The Hope Fault mine got it's own branch line which connected to the main line at Hope Fault junction.

Around this time the Hotrocks branch line connection (in Brent gorge) was expanded to become a wye. A large section of rock was carved out to create the new leg of track which turned the junction into a wye. This area is now known as the "Brent gorge wye".

- - - The modern day - - -

Recently the GeTA Sulfur purchased a new fleet of Ac440CW diesel locomotives to upgrade their motive power. These new engines were much stronger than the aging DA-class engines, and took over most of the heavy freight on the railway.

The town of Serro Geo also undertook a lot of modernization and now has multiple modern hotels and a newly constructed railway platform. The old "historic village" has been preserved and now acts as the main tourist attraction in the area, and brings in people from around the world to see the preserved historic village.

The area is also home to multiple hiking tracks, including trails to the nearby Mt Morgan and Mt Arthur summits. A steep trail even connects the township of Serro Geo all the way down to Oatery.

This is my own entry for the 'Railroad history jam' and is a fictional railroad.
You can download all of the various liveries and mods in the workshop collection above.
(Read the descriptions for each livery to get some more history of the railway!)
This entire map was made using in-game tools, and makes use of new features like switchboards and a skybox!
I had so much fun making this, and I hope you have fun exploring!

Yes indeed, another "Great Job" with this layout.

Side note, GETA Sulfur, RL's very own Barrett & Jackson Auctions, has placed several dumpers up within the WorkShop in your honor. Enjoy!.
