Shields in Starbound are a bit strange. Unlike other weapons of war like swords, there's only one craftable version, and they lack a lot of variety. In addition, there's not much difference between small shields and large shields besides a bigger number. This mod seeks to change that while making a few additions here and there.

First and foremost, shields have been separated into two categories: shields, which are your standard tried and true kite shields and tower shields; and bucklers, which are more agile at the cost of less defense. Both can be aimed now, but bucklers don't slow you down and have a larger window to perfectly block an attack.

Secondly, each type of shield has a few more visual variations to keep them from becoming same-y. More designs will be added in future updates. Shield name generation has been altered so that new shields will actually have a manufacturer like other weapons do (why was this even left out?).

Thirdly, as you may have seen from the preview, there's now a craftable shield for tiers 2 through 5 in addition to the tier 1 Basic Shield, which has been renamed the Iron Buckler, given a few buffs, and received a unique appearance. Each tier alternates between offering a buckler or shield, finishing with the Solarium Shield at tier 6.

Incompatibilities:
*Anything that alters either the randomly generated shields or unique shields. Mod-added shields will behave normally.
*This mod doesn't actually touch shield.lua, meaning it should be compatible with Aimable Shields in case you want other mod-added shields to be aimable too.

I did not mean to come of as agressive, I only meant to point out the fact that the shields are lacking. My choice of word approach was poor.

True, I might have messed up the numbers when I made this mod over a year ago, but as you might be able to tell from the lack of updates, I don't mod Starbound anymore. If you're unhappy with the numbers not being big enough, I implore you to change them yourself. Even if I were still modding, I certainly wouldn't do it for you since you came into my comments with that poor attitude.

dude these shields suck, the durasteel shield (if it has the stats that are shown in the thumbnail) is probably one of the worst shields, the seashell shield has 39 defense with a 6.5 cooldown

Unknown. If Frackin' Universe doesn't extensively change the way shields work, it could be, but I have gone to no effort to make any compatibilities.

I haven't added any riot shields, exactly, but I'll see about adding some more modern looking shields when I have time to update this.
