MSGBOX: "Required license isn't available"
I've just finished the game, hen went back and tried all three "endings". (I had to get help with going all the way up on foot.) So, hey, now it's time to look at "extras", right? I found the downloadable content in the workshop and made a trial pass at the 'Pokeball Drones'. Just clicked "subscribe" and ran the game. It said it had to restart in "moddable mode". Fine, I said do so...

Then, I got:

Cannot load 'Content/Talos/Models/Player/Player.mdl':
Required license isn't available.
(Content/Talos/Models/Player/Player.mdl)

Am I doing something wrong; trying to do something I shouldn't; or, is this feature just not ready for prime time?

If your problem is specific to a particular Workshop mod, you should write on the comments thread for that mod. The mods are not made by Croteam, but by independent authors.

I don't think the Pokeball is part of it. Literally nowhere in that pack of files does Player.mdl exist. It's likelier that more than one modification is being used.

Alen, it's the same bug as with SS3: If someone who got the Prototype DLC makes any sort of mod, the mod will need the DLC. Told you about this before. It's because the DLC gros have files from the vanilla game and they overwrite the vanilla ones.

Hm, but Player.mdl is not part of the DLC. Either it's not that, or that bug is not what we think it is.

Yes it is. It is inside the DLC_Prototype_223249.gro .

It is, but it's strange that the file itself doesn't contain a "Player.mdl" anywhere, but still spits an error relating to it, regardless of what files the owner uses. I mean, I use a modified HudParams.rsc (and so would anyone else with that modification), and it's not like they require anything different. Just like how maps with, say, Stationary Connectors spit out an error while packaging into .gro about the Prototype DLC, even though the only reason that would matter is if the file was in the .gro in the first place.
