Drivable vans as cargo carriers
SUGGESTION!

i had an idea yesterday.

and this is considering as part of a hard economy mod.

What if you started with very little money and just a van carry smaller loads, building your business with ai drivers also doing same, like a rag to riches type gameplay.

you start with a choice of van/pickup, maybe a 7.5 tonne, and you have to be at a certain level before achieving an HGV licence and enough money to buy a truck.

As cars and other vehicles are now drivable, and have been for a while now, thanks to you great modders..

give them the ability to carry loads, even if only small loads, which brings more cargo on to the playing field.

It would make it more "realistic" in the approach to success, and a big haulage company, and fun gameplay.

I hope this thread inspires some of you, to not think out of the box, but put it in the box tape it up and throw it in the back of a van lol.

At that point, I'll point to a couple games for that purpose:

https://psteamproxy.yuanyoumao.com/app/976590/Bus_Simulator_21_Next_Stop/

Oh, let's go even further with railroads.

Point is, while I get that this was posted in the workshop area, American Truck Simulator is a game about driving semi trucks. Nowhere does SCS advertise about driving pickups, cargo vans, or anything of that nature. If one wants to use mods for driving other vehicles, more power to them. But they will still drive like big trucks because the physics engine in the game is specifically tailored to it, not smaller vehicles.

There's van mods out there (not workshop tho)

There are two pick up trucks like the Ford F350 and the RAM 3500 in MODS that also have a trailer
And by the way, whoever claimed that the small vehicles feel like heavy trucks probably hasn't tested them, and I use one and it works well and doesn't feel like a heavy truck, but I understand that they are talking about very old versions since it was changed.

I will state that SCS is presently working on variants of trucks that have cargo capacity on the units, but time will tell if they'll allow cargo on just those units without trailers. If they do, it wouldn't be all that unreasonable to add a modded vehicle that doesn't have a trailer to do cargo loads.

If anything, I'd recommend FiveM servers on GTAV for things like that. Plenty of RP and non-RP servers that do exactly what you want, including more.

I'd recommend Transport Tycoon(FiveM server).

Except Pavel has said they are open to the idea of expanding the game into other types of delivery vehicles including vans in future. But the immediate focus is trucks.

If rigids ever happen, then the next logical step will be vans.
