You and I both know nobody reads. :D
@op like Vermillion mentioned it sounds like you're flying a SV not a CV.
Though you maybe also locked a planet or sector instead of the star? How are you locking your warp target? Using the galaxy map or the system map?
When trying to warp in the CV, there are certain mistakes in setting the destination that seem to trigger the IN-SYSTEM warp limits being imposed, which are 50 AU or 75 AU for the regular and advanced warp drives, respectively. These mistakes are:
(1) You search the star name, which pops up 4-5 different options, some of which are [star name] LEFT or [star name] RIGHT or down or up, or whatever. Selecting anything other than the star name by itself will trigger the in-system limit.
(2) You search the system, pull up the system diagram, and try to warp from another star directly to an individual planet or moon within the star system. This will trigger the in-system limit.
Correct: The right way of doing a warp is to select the star name alone from the search results, or click on the star within the galaxy menu, and then the game imposes the GALACTIC warp limits, which to be honest I've not seen or tested yet, have no idea what they are. All I know is that doing it this way works.
I wrote this up because I didn't see a clear instruction anywhere on how to warp from star to star, and my first clumsy experiments ran into this weird tiny limit which I first thought was a bug. So hope this explanation helps someone else.
Might be good feedback to post to the game devs so maybe they can improve that. You're not the first nor will be the last to get hit by that confusing system.
