If you change this to

pdxmesh = "mammalian_01_cruiser_bow_M1S2_mesh"
In game this would then present you with the bow with the large turret section. Bear in mind you will also have to change the corresponding section in the component_templates otherwise you will only be able to fit a medium turret despite it appearing to be large. The same applies for custom ships but clearly the models need to be present in the mod and I haven't looked into this mod yet.

Would be good if he did, and brought compatibility patches out for other popular mods.
If he's not going to bother, I may try and learn how to do this myself (though I can say i'll probably be slow to update them if I do choose to)
Wot? But the other SG shipmods state they have built-in compatability.
Really this one has no comp anymore?
