for public transport at least i know the base game has options now to select which bus/train/metro/tram you want to spawn for that line.
as for service vehicles such as fire trucks, police cars, hearses.... maybe try this one? (i use it myself)

as a plus compared to the game options, this mod allows you to select more than 1 type of vehicle for the same line or service, so you can have 2 or more different trains in the same line, if you wish, or 2+ different police cars, etc

Which other mod are you talking about? Else I've been asking myself if any mod is needed at all meanwhile since with last update of the game we have several vehicles for trams, trains, etc as available standard. that makes only sense if one can select them, right?

@chrbordeaux there is another mod to select vehicles, and with so many mods made by bloodypenguin, is only fair he stops updating this one if there is a good alternative (not necessarily better, but no point on updating his mod if there is a working alternative), better use his time to update and improve other more "must have" mods, rather than something that has alternatives working.

@BloodyPenguin Your mod is much more practical to use. The other mod unfortunately does not work on all service buildings, especially garbage ones, and it is also not possible to choose any vehicle. With its mod the options are bigger, for example, in the garbage transfer building, it is possible to select any truck, while in the other mod only the specific transfer truck is available. It would be great if you updated because your mod is better!

What a weirdo this BP. For years he feeds us with the mods and shortly before the end of CS1 he pisses off and the mods don't work anymore.

Mod is super finicky.

If it doesn't work well, use new mod Vehicle Selector 1.4

@Jav-aniceday for public transport use either "improved public transport v2", or I believe "transport line manager" also has option for transports.
Transfer controller deals with services only, not public transport.

@Dath_Jimbo not all vehicles for all buildings. In fact, it won't let me choose a vehicle for train stations - the one building type I really wanted to choose a vehicle for. I hope BloddyPenguin comes back and fixes this one, and the Barges mod, as well. Or someone else who can do so.

@CyberVibes I'm so stupid. I'm using TC since it released but didn't realize that you could choose vehicles with it. Thanks. Edit: Not for cable cars unfortunately...

when I select the buses that I downloaded they don't leave the garage, how do I get them to run?

A problem:
IF I activate this mode, I cannot select bus type on the bus line interface.

@Pnevma: I subscribed to Transfer Controller just recently and it looks like that mod could be the spiritual successor to this mod (SVS2). However, Transfer Controller is still under development and hasn't reached its final version yet, so I'm going to have wait another year or so for that mod to be ironed out and completed. Until then, I'm going to have to put my playing time with C:S on hold. What a shame, since BloodyPenguin was once an active modder here in the workshop known for his good works and helpful mods up until this year as he finally decided to leave the workshop indefinitely for reasons only known to him after the Airports DLC update (TBH, we players didn't really need that DLC in the first place). :(

id abandon this mod guys, transfer controller/transfer manager can do the same thing and are more up to date. they also do not break theme mixer 2, afaik. it's very odd that there's a connection there, in the first place?

transfer controller/manager are two separate mods but accomplish similar, they allow you to manage transfers in and out of industries and vehicle selection for just about anything. a more advanced version of this. they also have visual selection, somewhat. i think only one of them does.

@CyberVibes, if you have Transfer Controller, you don't need Service Vehicle Selector. they do the same thing.

Is there supposed to be a config file for this mod? Looked in both steamapps folders as well as appdata but cant find anything related to one.

This has stopped working for me i think it may be a conflict with Transfer Controller having the ability to select vehicles but now this mod ignores any of the custom vehicles i select.

I have a ton of mods, but I've noticed when this one is active my fire stations - and only them - spawn way more fire engines than building settings would allow, but the station will still show that 0 units are in use. Even the vanilla stations.

So, if I have a station that only allows 4 spawned engines when there is a fire, I will count up to 10 actually being sent out, but the building still says 0 are in use...

does anyone know an alternative to this that keeps the "visual" selection feature, so i can actually see an icon of the cars im picking

I've recently noticed that my cruise ships and passenger planes are disappearing when I click on their buildings. The only thread I could find about it says it's an issue with this mod. Are any of you having this issue? Were you able to fix it?

While Transport Lines Manager solves the problem that has plagued IPT2 since the Airports DLC release and update, apparently there is no equivalent mod that can solve SVS2's similar problem that's being affected by the Airports DLC update. AVO and this one mod by klyte45 called Vehicle Master Control seem to be their equivalent of SVS2 but they don't work the same way as SVS2. So for now, until someone with significant modding skills can make a new version of SVS2 or create an actual spiritual successor to it, it's going to be ages until someone has the fortitude to step up to the task.

does this work for selecting specific cargo trains to specific fright stations?
