Whenever you have a map and the developer forgot to add a mapicon, you'll see it in your GMOD as a greyish/black square. By adding a mapicon, you'll change that greyish/black square into a little photo of the actual map. When you have 5 maps, with no mapicon, it's hard to know which map is which. By adding a mapicon, you know, based on the mapicon, how the surroundings of the map look like.
