New models to try are one thing but when I ported these it kind of became a project to see how far I could push the models and what things I could exploit to implement into features. It's what led to me discovering the proportions workaround, creating better materials, etc. I pretty much ran dry when I started wanting lua features which didn't go very well since I'm not a programmer. Porting new models that just have the standard features just wasn't very fun in my opinion. There's a thousand anime character ports, dupes, reskins, etc but most of them are just the same thing with a different model with the same features that don't really stand out.

If you subscribe to the model and boot the game it shouldn't be an error. Make sure you reboot after subscribing (just to be safe) and check your addons -- both that you're subscribed to and just ones you've been made to download from other servers. Sometimes people use some of my addons to make their own and build off it but forget to change something somewhere which can unfortunately cause addon conflicts.

Is this with any NPC? Have you downloaded any mods that might change the way NPCs are spawned or anything of the sort? If not you could try removing all mods and doing a clean install, then just picking mods fresh. It could be a broken mod somewhere buried in your files. You could also try turning everything off in the addons menu and seeing if it still crashes but it could be one that's a loose load file rather than a gma package.

hey, me and my friend have been experiencing some problems with the Len npc and Hatsune Miku, the playermodels and radgolls work fine but as soon as we spawn the npc the game crashes after 3 seconds, we tried to uninstall and install this addon but the issue is still there, can someone help me to resolve this or explain why this happens? My friend is very sad and might quit gmod for this :( pls help

If you find somebody then you'd certainly need to send them that. Most of the anime models on the workshop came from MMD so if you find someone who's willing, they'll probably be capable.

I suppose it depends on what for, I still don't mind improving models but I'm probably not the best person to ask if you're wanting a new model rigged.

Update: it's working fine now? I can't seem to replicate the glitch, so I can't give you a screenshot. I think it was just a problem with my game (I do keep getting script errors all the time).
Also, before you responded to my message, I tried to facepose other models to see if it was just your model that had the glitch. Turns out it happened to the others as well!
So, at least I learned a lesson about reporting bugs and that you always need evidence.

Hey, I have a little problem here. When I try to facepose the model, the face looks distorted, even when the flex scale is at 1. I wonder if it's only me who has this problem and if there's any way I can fix it.

Since the models were made for gmod in the first place the only options for having it animated were remaking several hundred animations or just using the valve biped

The thing about source is animations are both rotational and translational whereas many modern games are rotational alone. The models all use the valve biped for several reasons, the proportions workaround that results in the bone deformation in SFM is just a quick way to bypass the original proportions since they're forced. Source has an additive animation system used by things like gestures (in L4D2 the characters use it for stretching, scratching, and other fidgets for example) and it works by basically overlaying an animation with movement only along certain bones to make an overlay animation of sorts.

The proportions trick is just making use of the same system to push the bones into a desired location. It's a byproduct in SFM but works just fine in GMod and L4D2 whereas without it it'd look fine in SFM but not so good in game.

I basically have the files ready to go whenever but I don't use SFM myself outside of the toolset to assist in modeling and I don't work with SFM users that I'm aware of either so I never had a grasp on what features are ideal or less than ideal. It wouldn't take me much work to finalize them with feedback,

OH AND I AM NO EXPERIENCED MODLER, BUT A TIP FOR YOU, JUST IN CASE, I DO KNOW THAT AND THIS MAY BE PRETTY OBVIOUS, BUT I KNOW THAT WHEN YOU MAKE OR GET A MODEL FOR SFM, THE VALVEBIPED RIG IS THE BEST WAY TO GO, EVEN IF YOU RENAME THE BONES TO MATCH THERE RIG, I AND A FEW FRIENDS OF MINE SAY IT'S BETTER THEN MAKING A CUSTOM OEN SOMETIMES.

only when you import the model for the first time and it's as simple as a few clicks, the model was made for gmod so the animation adjustment is for the gmod skeleton

if it were made for SFM then it'd probably have different work done entirely rather than just a simple port, I actually have unreleased beta versions which changed a few basic things but I never went too far with it because I don't use SFM enough to know what features help and what features don't
