It's not specifically how furries work, it's simply how digitigrade legs work. Laying prone with toes on the surface is a tensed posture.

The feet when prone should be relaxed, not tensed (i.e. top of foot against the surface, not the toe of the foot. foot pads should be facing up when prone.)
