Hi mironos, could you help me and the civ community? a lot of mac users are having a graphic glitch with the fog of the war and I believe a modder could solve the problem with a mod, we believe we just need a mod that disables the outline effect of non visible tiles: https://www.reddit.com/r/civ/comments/grvy01/graphical_glitch_on_fog_of_war/

This mod isn't working for me.
Some weird map get's activated when I turn this mod on.
Furthermore some weird yellow/black field appearing on the top/bottom of the screen.

Update??

Fairly simple.. for anyone willing to do an extremely easy edit in the authentic source file from "Base\Artdefs" !
This change would only take effects in a new game though.
File == FOW.artdef
Line == <m_fValue>0.100000</m_fValue>

PS; Default was 0.700000 but the entire set of other instructions/calls also has various tricky inserts. The newest system (R&F) uses .. instead of :: for the Element_Class(es) defines and merged some referencing lines too.

Sooooo -- OR ... just unzip the already corrected file (( https://www.dropbox.com/s/3u9qq1kavk9y8k1/FIX--885563867.zip?dl=0 )) i'm linking you to & dump it into the Mod folder to replace the old one.

Correction: Placing districts and wonders is not affected. That is for another mod that I'm testing.

Tried the mod and don't notice any difference. Also, placing districts and/or wonders doesn't work when the mod is active. Too bad, I've been looking for a remedy to the awful FOW graphics for a while. Perhaps an update to take into account the recent game update will fix this.... I hope!

Just go to: Documents\my games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\AppOptions.txt
Next, scroll down to: ;Enable Debug menu. Change the 0 to a 1, so it reads: EnableDebugMenu 1
When in game and your looking at all that fog of war, press the ~ (tilde) button, and type in “Reveal All”, without the quotes. Woosh, fog is gone. Only works for single player mode. Always backup the original.

Could you maybe make the coloring a bit more colourful? Or even better make it like Civ 5 with dark clouds above unexplored areas.

The first thing I noticed going from 5 to 6 is that the explored areas lacked contrast so it was hard to see what you had explored.

As background on how the game produces the FOW effect -- essentially, every terrain type in the game has (at least) two textures, a normal one, and a FOW texture. This means that the fog of war is NOT simply an overlay, color, or other effect laid on top of the map, but a completely different texture file. This makes changing it -- outside of creating brand new texture files for each type of terrain -- difficult to impossible.

It IS possible to have tiles that are technically in the fog of war point to the unobstructed textures -- but then it would be impossible to tell what areas were actually in the fog of war.

So a true fog of war solution will have to largely be a time and graphic-intensive one, rather than scripting, which is unfortunately not something I can tackle atm.

Would it be possible to change the appearance of Fog of War based on the era you're in? For instance, cave drawing style in the ancient era, printed ink in the industrial era, or digital in atomic/information era.

I came with another idea for the same problem: can the transitions be interchanged? I mean: the ones between visible-non visible and discovered-undiscovered

Possible, yes. But it likely involves redoing or replacing a lot of textures, so in other words, graphics work. I'm stronger at coding. :-)

I've been hoping someone would write something along these lines, but I'm sorry to say that the mod hasn't really improved things for me.

I'd prefer a mod to restore Civ V's fog of war system - either I've seen the tile or I haven't.
Remembering that stuff could go on in places I haven't seen in a while is no problem for me.
Is such a mod a possibility?

To others, agree that it's only a partial solution. Changing the actual fog color (which would be the ideal) is much more involved. From my research thus far, it's not as simple as just changing a single overlay texture (I wish it were). I'll keep looking into it though.
