I would say for the lores sake see if you could make reeds be part of the crafting and maybe have it crafted at the wooden workbench?

i remember laughing thinking it was literally a flute with a sack of air attached and i really wasn't that far off. XD

This scene from Samurai Jack got me interesting in bagpipes....even in the name :P

not sure about its colors and body overall - looks more like pizza with tomatos on corners, than bagpipe :v
