Found a solution to the name change fix - you have to create a new scenario in the map editor (set as max civ allowed), save, then select and load the created scenario in Standard game/single player > selecting the civs that names are affected, When I started the new game the names finally went back to their original ones. I then quit the game and used a different game type 'Random map' to test it it worked properly and ithas been right ever since. what I can conclude is that for some reason aoe recognises the last name used in scenario play as the standard for some reason.
