I'm not really sure what's actually wrong here.
Also, I haven't played Starbound in ages. :P
-They accumulate charges is a short amount of time so they cannot be reloaded by hand.
-Firing will shot all the charges into a red beam so the more charges, the longer the beam.
-The beam bounces on hard terrain so it causes every charge to scatter in small rooms.
-Holding down the firing button will keep firing the lowest possible discharge.
I'm not sure if Melee weapons should be made of these crystals, though. They seem to be like too important to be used that way.
If youre doing bunker items then maybe Sandstone modules that are weaker than concrete or just for aesthetics
