Isaac is also assigned a color, too. He flashes it briefly after using. Enemies that roll the same color as Isaac are charmed indefinitely, which is where the side split comes from.
Happy or sad animations are dependent on whether 50% of Ministro are on your side or not. If there's nothing in the room, it just farts.

@WonderNoah All the enemies in the room are assigned either to be red or blue. Red enemies attack blue enemies, and blue enemies attack red. You basically divide the enemies in a room into two sides that fight each other.
