It changes the entities2.xml which is probably the problem. Looking into it now.

this mod seems to make it so that angelic prism and 7th seal create invisible familiars. i went down my list in debug mode enabling and disabling mods to figure out what was up, and this was the mod that caused the problem. not game-breaking but definitely worth noting.

Wasn't there already a tell? I could easily see that they were slightly more red and had little squares that were slightly more grey.

The idea of making mimics detectable is very good. But making it animated is just too obvious in my opinion. A more subtle telling detail, like the cross on the item containing rocks, would probably be more balanced. Why have mimics at all if they are so obvious you can't actually fall in their trap.
