Y'all can fix the addon by going into the game's cfg folder and editing this line in the addonconfig.cfg file:

"versus" "1"

change the 1 to a 0 and you should be good to go
to be safe, make sure to change all the others to 0 as well

When I made it 6 years ago, yea, it worked in versus. Not anymore though since Valve disabled all addons in versus. Go complain to them, not me.

there is a way to get this without the addon, first you find them in the 'corrections'' here is the way to get to it: ...left4dead2/materials/corrections and yes its a bit weird but you can do it just find the ''infected & infected.pwl'' and ''ghost & ghost.pwl'' after you find it... delete them it works. Credit goes to the guide where i found it in a noa1mbot channels FAQ to find FAQ go to one of their stream and check its description

I have made same addon for myself while ago. I'd recommend you to also remvoe vignette effect (\materials\dev\vignette.vtf).
Also what the point of .pwl.raw files?
