Maces have been used since some time in the early stone age, but I doubt it was in use by every single tribe in the world back then.

Don't take offensive, it looks ugly, and maces are late medieval weapons

The hoplites and noble hoplites look that similar in vanilla too. The only difference is a cloak lol.

Mah not quite. One does not simply conquer Greece. Alexander rekt the Illyrians but anyway alternate history is always welcome since this is a video game.
Btw why do they look like the Varangian Guard but with maces instead of Axes?
