I suggest you look at the model for the Pyro's propeller hat for reference. Ellis has a bodygroup for the head so you can bonemerge the hat to his head.

I had to remove part of the cap (the visor) from the body mesh, so I don't think it could have been possible with an additional model :I

You could have made the hat a separate model and then bodygrouped it to Ellis's head. That could be too hard for someone new to modelling though.

Hmm, this mod modifies the model, and the head textures.
So I'm afraid only the mods affecting the body textures will be compatible!
