Also, I wouldn't consider the goo not killing the player to be a "little" margin of error; it's a huge margin. The whole point of the goo is to kill the player. If it doesn't, it nerfs the test.
The only reason I haven't replaced it with the GTX 285 in my closet is because I still can't find a suffecient power supply.
I could understand the derelict relaxation vault room and turret room incurring a performance hit, but the rest doesn't make sense unless your PC doesn't meet P2's min requirements or you are like me and run Photoshop and 3ds Max in the background. There's also the possibility you are running integrated or low tier dedicated graphics...hmm. What are you using?
I have a good range of hardware to test on, but not enough samples. There's my desktop which lurches through anything new I throw at it that isn't Source and my laptop which can barely play Half-Life 2 Deathmatch in window mode at 800x600.

Also, there often isn't enough time to jump off before the platform starts to fall in that direction. You should reduce the sesntivity of the platform somehow.
Just wait for it to settle before running up, I guess (That's what I did).
P.S. Can you look at my maps? I know that sounds corney, but I need someone to try them to see if they're any good.
