I'm assuming not, but hear me out on this, I liken the "genetic modifications" to making specific alterations to models of synths. For instance the synths on your energy worlds could be modified to be thrifty, denoting that their bodies are purpose built for the specifics of gathering large amounts of energy and ones on science planets could be modified to be intelligent denoting that their processors or whatever are overclocked.
Just saying that if it were possible to implement this it would be really damn cool.
