Number one reason are those innefficient braces. Bracing too much, while make the plane really sturdy, it also generates too much lag. I already getting grasp on what need to be braces and what should not.
Number two are the number of propeller. Having too much of these thing can heavily impact your performance a lot when reaching high speed. I should try placing them strategically to make sure i got the lift I needed while also maintaining small number of propeller.
The last one are just the number of blocks like usual. Those old planes you mentioned has really small block count, not just because these are relatively small, these also uses old gyro steering method. I no longer favors these gyro steering because now I love to replicate the real plane steering into Besiege which sometimes forces me to go big and I have to be careful with the block count.
Honestly, I love the Scarface you made a lot. It manouvers well and can gain some speed relatively fast. The only issue with that one is that going too fast or raising the timescale makes the front fins wonky, making it nose-dive in most situations and crash.
The Nosferatu was a bit weird in that it liked to veer to the left or right most of the time. But you gain more speed by coming out of a dive with that thing way more than it should... Which made it more fun to fly imo.
Either way, some of your first planes were really good. Not saying that the new ones aren't, but the lag can be a bit of a pain to deal with...

But commercial aircraft can not shoot or blow things up...
Or maybe a Twin Otter? I'd like to see how well besiege does things when it comes to real life accuracy
