Well, sword styles vary, hugely, depending on what purpose they're meant to serve. My guess is the grip is narrow the way it is because it's better for armored gauntlets. A thicker handle with ridges would be perfectly fine for bare hands, but for heavy armored gloves it could potentially be a bit unweildy. The hilt length though is certainly because it's designed to be held with two hands; the longer hilt provides better leverage to that end. Historical longswords and two-handed swords were designed this way, some even having a hilt length that looks downright silly (case in point: http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp51/gcoffman06/Baltic%20Weapons/longsword1210.jpg~original ).

But, that's just my two cents on the matter. I personally haven't held a "true" sword, much less made one, but I've always been fascinated by them and have digested a lot of info about them from various sources over the years. It doesn't make me a scholar, but it certainly helps with modeling them.

Not agree, dear friend. I am "blacksmith-steward" myself, helping a friend of mine to create his "Greek Hoplite Panoply". The handle of these "Nazgul" blades are extreme thin, you can't hold them properly - and very very long.

Anyways, different opinions. Your model looks exactly as film's. Good job.

The blade comes to that slender point because it's geared for thrusting, so the wielder can pierce armor or flesh more easily. Swords that are designed purely for cutting will usually have a blunt tip. The blade might seem like it'd be fragile on account of its slenderness, but looks can be deceiving: A properly tempered sword blade can be hella durable, it doesn't need to be broad or thick in order to be. Also, the Nazgul swords are visibly VERY old; the main one (with the straight, spiny crossguard) is actually missing a big chunk from its blade, so that ended up making it quite a bit thinner than it would've been when it was new.

Actually, the swords of the Nazgul, plus the Witch-King's, are very realistically designed. The designers at WETA didn't make them thick and fantastical, they very much grounded them in reality, even some of the more "magical" weapons like Sting and Orcrist. The reason why the swords of the Nazgul, including the Witch-King's, are designed the way they are is because they're longswords. Longswords have a long grip so that the wielder can wield it with two hands, and the length is so the wielder has a good deal of leverage on the weapon; it allows them to slide their grip up or down the hilt so they can better pilot the blade into the squishy bits of their foe, especially when wearing armored gauntlets.

I'm a huge supporter of Peter Jackson's LoTR trilogy, but I always had some objections - like these "Nasgul" swords. They are EXTREMELY thin... Aye, they supposed to be swords for "ghost"/"skeletons", but the "Nasguls" were originally the Nine High Kings of Humans, so they were originally HUMANS.
If they were (which they should!), these swords are VERY thin to hold them, with huge handle (very-very long).

Where this faund?
oh ty i read some old comments so i could find out where it is
The very last screenshot shows its location, which is fairly close to the end of the dungeon if I recall correctly. There's a catwalk that divides two rooms full of sarcophagi, the sword is located in the righthand chamber, in the sarcophagus highlighted in the aforementioned screenshot.
ive been searching in valthume a long time now

weree the hell is this place
The sword, when you first find it, is one-handed, & can be grip-switched to 2-handed at a smelter. You can also make a 1-handed, clean replica, which can be weathered into an unenchanted old version at a smelter.
Are some of them one handed
IT WORKED THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! AWESOME MOD BY THE WAY
This is pretty much it, though note that it's a bit different on my end since I'm using SkyUI: http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h163/Evasto/Screenshots/20160605192752_1_zpsnzgpbboe.jpg~original

I ran tests and everything's in order as far as grip-switching goes, so it's possible you're running an older version of the mod, either because you unsubbed at some point or you bypass the vanilla launcher (either by using SKSE or something like that), so I'd double check on those fronts to make sure it's updated.
i have made one now another one but it still doesn't show up, could you make a vid. or picture to show me how to do it? but otherwise awesome mod!
It should show up under the Steel category when you have the smelter menu up, provided the sword's in your inventory. Then it's just a matter of clicking on it.
how?
Bring it along to a smelter, you should be able to grip-switch it there.
pleasse help i do not know how to chnge it into 2 handed

Shia LaBeouf 2016
Loving that description.
It's located in the Valthume Catacombs, near the end
Karn 2016
La brother it is sword where ?
Syndrome Of A Down 2016 年 3 月 3 日 下午 7:40
alright thank you
M'kay, well I just updated once again, hopefully having fixed this embuggerance. I've pushed the 2-handed ones up about 20% further, which hopefully provides enough clearance in 3rd person, but on top of that I've added in 1st-person meshes for the 2h-handies.
Syndrome Of A Down 2016 年 3 月 3 日 下午 7:10
SPOA Silver Knight Armor.
What armor are ya using, by chance?
Syndrome Of A Down 2016 年 3 月 3 日 下午 5:21
i checked and it is still not high enough, Sorry it is my armor.
Syndrome Of A Down 2016 年 3 月 3 日 下午 4:36
alright thanks
Aight, I just uploaded 1.1b, which has scooted-up meshes for the 2h-handed swords, so hopefully they'll be less clippy
Syndrome Of A Down 2016 年 3 月 3 日 下午 3:26
yeah that is the problem, it was a little too low.
Doubtful. It may be I have additional positioning adjustment because of XPMSE, but I'm not sure. What I may have to do is scoot the 2-handed sword up a bit more and give it a 1st-person mesh so it won't clip in both 1st and 3rd.
Syndrome Of A Down 2016 年 3 月 3 日 下午 3:22
maybe because i have downloaded it from nexus and workshop?
Blegh, I know I adjusted it so it wouldn't do that, my main uses a 2-handed one she enchanted and there isn't any clipping with her, at least in 1st person; I dunno if the issue with you is in 1st person or 3rd.
Syndrome Of A Down 2016 年 3 月 3 日 下午 2:22
I really hate to complain, Its a great mod but the hand on the female and male i do believe but the two handed verson the hand is clipping into the hilt (or whatever it is called) and if you cannot fix that, that is okay. Sorry i am just picky about looks and how perfect it is. Thanks.
Syndrome Of A Down 2016 年 3 月 3 日 下午 2:16
okay thank you so much man, great mod. Favorite.
Not to worry, I already thought of folk who go 2-handed. You can switch the sword into a 2-hander at a smelter.
Syndrome Of A Down 2016 年 3 月 3 日 下午 1:42
May you make a 2 handed version of this weapon, i think that would be awesome and also i main twohanded. Thanks for the picture.
'Kay, I just put up a screenie of the sword's exact location in the Valthume Catacombs. Mind, it's toward the end, not too far before the puzzle door.
Syndrome Of A Down 2016 年 3 月 2 日 下午 6:42
I cannot find it i have look a ton and every where for about a hour. i looked and it is checked off so i do have it installed but cannot find it so a picture or something?
It's close to the end of the Valthume Catacombs, in one of the open sarcophogi. Hopefully, there's always the chance Skyrim decides to do something weird.
Syndrome Of A Down 2016 年 3 月 2 日 下午 5:49
where in valthume?
Glad to hear it. :3 Hope ya have fun with this fella :D
Aberramt Stupidity 2016
You used the word "fecked".
already favorited, just for that.
in all seriousness, this is awesome. the stuff you upload to the workshop always is. I have yet to feel bored using somehting you've made XD
It's in the catacombs, specifically, I think a bit of a ways in where there's a catwalk that ends at 3 burial urns.
Hello ! Where is the sword exactly ? Valthume is quite a big place, i haven't found it yet.
