There's a WOTC version, @mumhustlar. This one only works with XCOM 2 without WOTC.

Hi everybody! WOTC version is finally up. So sorry for the wait! I ended up having to refactor it pretty heavily to get it to work. Let me know whether it gives you any trouble!

Okay, I *finally* had a chance to sit down with this...only long enough to get the tools installed and up and running and peek at things for 30 minutes beyond that...but a tiny bit of progress! It's looking like a fork is the safest option (which is what everybody else is doing on here anyway) and the code is small enough that simultaneously managing two of them wouldn't be that bad.

Looks like clicking the country button on a new soldier type causes an NPE (probably because they don't have "countries" of origin, or at least that's true for the Advent defectors...so either they don't have a source list to look at OR no country value to land one in) which won't be too too hard to clear up. That said, I won't be able to sit down to make this fix for real til next week. :\ I'm so so sorry, my life is a mess. I'm getting there. <3

Given what folks have said, I'd stick to using it with the vanilla operatives. Might be even a few weeks still til I can sit down and fix this. Sorry, all. :(

Today I learned not to hit "Random Country" for the Reapers. Game locked up for a couple minutes, then CTD. Still, I'm glad this works at all since it probably isnt supposed to.

Templars dont work at all currently, the buttons dont appear... no idea why XD it works on the reapers and skirmishers... also those that create soldiers in the character pool and use the buttons: For the reapers and skirmishers, its best to make a normal soldier first, randomize country, name first and second and then switch them to either classes, you can then randomise their nickname and bio using the pool attributed to those characters... but to be honest, both pools are very limited, especially the bios.

Note: When a Reaper unit is created, the game automatically assigns them a country as a backdrop, then applies the Reaper template on top of that, so when you select the random name buttons, the game will be limited to that initial country of choice. My Reaper appears to have been from Israel, and that is the name pool it is pulling from.

Good news, everyone!

After a bit of trial and error, it appears I've gotten this mod working in WotC. To begin with, you need the Mod Configuration Menu (MCM). It doesn't actually do anything to this mod, but it appears to help some mods get along better. Secondly, make sure that this mod (Random Nickname Button) is the LAST mod in your load order. If you're using the default steam launcher, that means this mod should be the last one you click to subscribe to, so that it appears at the very bottom of the list when you start up the game. So far, I've gotten the buttons to appear and work both in the character pool from the main menu, as well as in-game for the Skirmisher and Reaper factions (don't have a Templar yet).

Hello. Yes, new classes are nicknames the same way as the standard classes of the game when they are promoted, but by taking out the three new classes, your mod continues to run smoothly. Thank you and good luck!

I think that the main issue is the new classes have unique countries for their pool. Reapers and Templars use human names, but the emblem is related to their class rather than a particular country, and the Skirmishes use names that look like they were ripped out of a book of Klingon phrases. They also have unique background stories as well.

I gotcha. The buttons not appearing at all for just the new classes is interesting: they must have their own specialized UI class. That might be a pain to fix. :) Assuming the new classes do get auto-generated nicknames when they hit rank?

Hello. The mod works like before War of the Chosem, only for the new classes is that the button does not appear. But for the standard classes (vanilla) it is fully functional. The mod is extremely practical! Thank you!

I definitely want to work on this. It's my favorite out of my three. <3

My life is a *mess* right now, I'm miles from my gaming rig/dev machine, and I can't afford a copy of WOTC just yet anyway. :\ So, I'm afraid there will be some delay.

You can help: do the buttons appear at all or just not work? Do the buttons not work (or not appear) for all soldiers, or just the new ones? The more I know about it the easier it'll be for me to fix it when I get the chance finally.

I won't be offended if somebody else builds a mod in my absence, but worry not: this is my favorite. I don't mean to abandon it.

@iriemk I've seen the game crash when you try to load a soldier up that has no home country (which can happen if, for instance, they had a home country from a mod that was removed). Historically, mods that modify parts of the armory UI really don't get along with mine; best case mine just won't load, worst case, well, things crash hard. Unfortunately the only way I could figure it out would be to have time to sit down with both of them and see how they interact; next best thing is for you to tell me what you see, which you did. :) Is it always the case that any country from your special character pool does this? Does home country "special air service" always cause a crash? If so, try manually changing the country to something else (like "France") and then click the random button, see if that crashes too. Any of these being answered could really help!

My work on my mods has frozen almost entirely due to real-life issues. (My wife has breast cancer; it's basically eaten everything in my life at present. Don't worry, she'll be fine, but it's a long road to fine.)

To your questions: in my testing, Random Bio hit all the bios; it's possible a patch or one of your mods is confusing it. Do you run any mod(s) that add new bios or anything else to the armory UI?

I love this thing, but I have a bug to report (dunno if this has been adressed before):

Complete crash after trying to assign random country to a soldier I drew from MW Character Pool mod, who originally had "Special Air Service" as his homecountry.

Is there any -simple- way on my end to fix this, changing something on your or their mod ini? I'm not very proficient in editing things with the notepad...thanks in advance for any aid I can get, since I suppose it will happen to a lot more soldiers from that pool, and this won't be the last time I hit the random button in a hurry after the guy comes out of training, without checking the country first^^.

I'm very glad you like it, @dmc32; I have considered mirroring to Nexus but I don't think I will anytime soon; real life is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ all over me right now so I haven't done much of anything other than sleep, work, and game when I can. Hi @Saximaphone. This was actually on my todo list for the Random Appearance button but I avoided it because it quickly got very complicated. :\ There's no easy way to do it, as the voices (especially ones imported from mods) are 1. only identifiable by their names (strings) and 2. not always consistent. A "Solid Snake" VP for instance is clearly only for male soldiers but without the word "male" in its name (which would be weird there, right?) there'd be no way for my mod(s) to know whether to include it in a roll or not. Venom Snake's voice is simply "Venom Snake".

I *could* make a highly configurable mod that puts the burden of its configuraiton on the user, maybe: i.e. the mod maybe does its best OR requires the user actually input the names of each voice manually into an INI file...which would be very annoying for users, but I guess sometimes mods are like that. I can revisit this in weeks to come, maybe, see whether I get any clever ideas.

Yep. That mod breaks this one. Maybe worth adding a note to the Description?

Looking at its XComEngine.ini someone could comment out this line:
+ModClassOverrides=(BaseGameClass="UICustomize_Info", ModClass="LongerBio")

And retain the longer epitaph just not the longer biography.

Still, on the plus side I now know what a class override looks like. Learn something new...

Hi @Dragon32: If they "changed numbers" in UICustomize_Info, that *might* mean overrode the class, replacing the old one; since my mod listens specifically for UICustomize_Info (and not simply classes that inherit from it) they wouldn't work together in that case. (Their mod would work; mine wouldn't.)

To directly answer your question, I haven't tried it myself. :)

Anyone tried this with the Longer Epitaphs mod? According to that mod's author they:
"just changed two numbers in "UICustomize_Info" and "UIBarMemorial_Details"

So I'd expect that to work OK with this one, as this uses a screen listener. Anyone got any experience? I'll try it myself but it may be a day or two.
