do you know if
" +bAllowAWCAbilities=2 " would thus allow the soldier to gain up to two abilities from the AWC?
'In each [ClassNameGoesHere X2SoldierClassTemplate] section, adding the line:
AllowedArmors=soldier
will allow the soldier to equip all of the default soldier armors, and adding the line:
bAllowAWCAbilities=1
will allow the soldier to gain random abilities from the AWC.'

There is a Config folder and an Src folder, and others
to add " +AllowArmors=soldier "
First post details the issue. Basically, find the secion mentioned in there, and add the line in.
That will fix the issue for you specifically. To fix it for everyone, I have to get around to altering it myself. If enough people still enjoy the mod and would like a fix, I'll do so on my end, as well. Best of luck sir!
The sword side of things veers it away from what I imagine a "Heavy" to be.
Also, mine cannot equip higher than basic Kevlar.
