Auto Rifleman is still suffering from the one update / DLC bug where you can't use any armor beyond the initial ones. It was a quick fix with an ini edit to add "+AllowedArmors=soldier" , but still felt it should be mentioned.

With the Shen's Last Gift DLC has anyone else encountered their Auto Rifleman not being considered a "veteran" after reaching the proper rank and thus earning a nickname, extra customization, and the ability to use PCS modifications?

If you really want a secondary weapon, you could maybe take a cue from the shock trooper mod and do a flamethrower. Or just a pistol is fine, even if it doesn't have any special perks. Still something to use in a pinch to preserve ammo or if out of ammo.

Wow, this class actually makes a lot of sense to separate the heavy gunner out a bit more from the grenadier.

@Archangel If you change wherever it says Auto-Rifleman to Gunner and squaddieAuto-Rifleman to squaddieGunner in the code found here

SteamLibrary\SteamApps\workshop\content\268500\622709374. You will need to change XComClassData.ini, XComGameData.ini and XComGame.int
save them all and then it should work, Hope this helps.

Hi, i installed the mod in my playthrough of legendary ironman, but i see the name has now changed, and it is no longer properly loading the class. I now have several soldiers that don't have any abilities. Any way i can fix this?

someone already did a Gunner Class and its just like this.
if you want you class to be available to ppl that use that mod as well, you need to change the name or the mods WILL NOT work together.

Also, thematically I'd suggest a secondary pistol as an emergency backup but with a tight limit on pistol powers to keep the focus on the canon (thematically meaning based on big main gun means no room for any more than a light/fast secondary). So maybe just the gunslingers' Quickdraw power early and Fan Fire later for times when you want to finish off a close enemy without wasting canon ammo :)

Damn it I was thinking along these lines. Not that I have any clue what to do so I guess its easier to download somebodys :)
Do you know where I can learn how to do these mods myself, the best I ever did was mod somebodys mod in FS2013 to allow a trailer to accept straw!!!!! Big stuff there :)

Is this the same as the other Gunner mod on here? They look identical. Are there now 2, or did you redesign it?
