Also true lol

Me too, but there is no bloodied status in ZCide ;-)
Looks pretty good! Personally, I like having the base and the mini separate so that I can change the color of the base to indicate specific things like making it red to say the monster is bloodied or something. And if I ever want to scale up to make a bigger monster, I can just scale the model of the base up to the next stage of it being "small, medium, large, giant" etc and then make the model of the mini match it. I have tried doing this with the base still attached and it rarely lines up correctly. This looks really good though!

I still need to improve my blender and modeling skils (or have them firstly) but I think my results so far are promising:

The quality isn't the best but for somebody that has no idea how to do any 3D modelling, it seems to be a pretty good way to get minis into TTS. In case you weren't aware, somebody went through the D&D monster manual and made models for everything and uploaded them for free. They can all be downloaded and exported as a .obj in blender, but they were originally intended to be 3D printed so there are no textures, and a lot of them are in multiple pieces, like the arms are separated from the body. I would be the work into it if I knew how to do the modelling and texturing, but I have no idea where to even begin. If this is something people would be interested in, check out this link! http://www.shapeways.com/designer/mz4250

Well, seems that autodesk doesn't like you :-)
If you are really interested on this we'll find a way.
Try from another computer when you have a chance to rule out the problem is not on your computer. if it is not, I'll upload the file for you to some repository. I don't know if that will work out afterwards because an msi file will still need to download more stuff but... who knows

I think the problem must be on your side, because I can open it.

Try this link: http://labs-download.autodesk.com/us/labs/trials/worldwide/123DCatch.msi

Trying to do a PC download for Windows 8.1. Webpage won't even open. Says it's not accessible.
I can access without a problem. Which platform are you downloading the app for?
Oh no I mean the link to download 123D Catch doesn't work for me. I can't download the program

ScreamInVain,

You might clicked on the second link that is not working anymore. (I'm going to remove it btw). Try again the first one.

francobaldo1,
I added a picture before reducing the polygons. As you can see the mesh was too heavy to be used in TTF. I applied a 0.09 decimate ratio in the model uploaded.
it's very interesting, thanks for sharing ^^ the real great thing is that it creates a good UV map and the texture automatically, it would be really slow to create that manually. Do you have a picture of the model before the polygon reduction? thanks again.

For some reason, this website is not working for me. Hopefully some good stuff comes out of it. It looks like a lot of work but I hope it's worth it!
Baryonyx, the Autodest application on the tutorial also runs in mobile, the problem is that miniatures are very small, and the pictures need to be taken very focused. I used the webcam to have more control on that aspect.

Great!! I'm quite busy this weekend but I'll start scaning next week.

Sorry to hear that about wyrd. I wonder if they really have rights to ask you that as it is a miniature you have scanned yourself (for me it's the same that publishing a picture of a miniature you have painted, you are sharing an image of a specific miniature you have taken) Anyway I think malifaux is not that "popular" and they could get advantage of this sort of initiative to gain potential customers but.. It's another way of see things.

working on kingdom death monster minis...i have done antelope, lion, working on phoenix and will do all 4 prologue characters. so far the lion and the antelope look really great! each model has cca 6000 polygons. by the way i have uploaded teddy miniature for malifaux but wyrd asked me to take it down :-/

This is most amazing. I heard there was an Iphone app in development that would automatically take pictures when you go around an object and after that also process it into a 3D model, but it seems like it is far from finished or at least not released. Now with this an old dream seems to come true.

ruolbu,

I'm not an expert on this matter (that's what I'm using domestic equipment) but I guess the web cam should be able to take pictures of 1920x1080 (2MP) That worked for me. Alse the posibility of adjusting the focus manually. Anyway... as the software used is free you can try different options and see how it goes.

rolo3816,

I'm sorry, I don't have Blood Rage but I hope you find someone on this commutity that have it and is able to scan tem using this method.

Joeyvera, You ROCK! Zombicide Mini's would be amazing.. PLEASE tell me you own Blood Rage also!
what are the requirements for a 'good' webcam that can perform decently in this process?
Thanks, Vess.

Yep. That's the idea. I've got thousands of minis. Now I only need time to scan them. ;-)

but I will do a bunch of them every week. I'm thinking of staring with zombicide:

Very cool stuff man. Props to both you and Bobsen for experimenting with scanning minis into TTS! I've been meaning to look into this myself since I have a ton of warhammer models collecting dust in my closet and I would love to be able to share them on the workshop. Hope both of you guys keep up the great work and i'll be excited to see whatevers next! :giveityourbest:
