Ah okay. That makes sense. Ive found another mod that actually can go up to 50kms.

I have not updated it since I really no longer play SE. Another mod may interfere with the max range. If the range is large, you will not see all ore deposits as the game will stop displaying them after a certain amount is on screen. I do not know what that limit is and what affects it. Just something I noticed.

Works as of now. I moved the slider up to 5km on large. However, some ores doesn't appear at 5km but less than that.

Also surprising to find someone commenting on this after 2 years as I was looking at this mod just hours ago before

Not sure if Im just doing something wrong or if the mod is just that out of date, but my range is capped to only 500.00m not the max range it should be.

Jokerace45, I addressed this right in the info for the mod. But yes, DO NOT USE on a planet. I believe the game still uses some form of ray tracing for the "scan" to find the resources. As such, the planet has to many things to scan and overflow the allocated memory.

Good to know this is still in use! Thanks!

Do not use it on or near any celestial body. Otherwise expect your client to crash for memory useage. Essentially you will be getting the old "Memory stack overflow" error and crash of ages old.

I do not know if any update has changed this recently.

I have not tested this since the last round of updates. Haven't had time to do so. I am not a programmer so I can't say if the latest updates changes the way the ore detector scans for ore in the game. Good to know that it is still working thou! Thanks for the feedback!

So I weld the 2500m onto my ship only to have it crash from memory loss..........Loaded game up and tried again, this time I part welded it and slide the range down to 500 m :) very Happy with mod not happy about how much memory (RAM) is needed.......Off to shops to get dilithium crystals Captain!

Yes. It is the stock model, just with extended ranges. It still does not work on planets.

does this stil work?

it is exactly as you wrote it.
Because there is too much "of objects" to be verified.

Planets now, very little resources.
It is worth leave the planet as soon as possible and to obtain raw materials in space, to then come back again.

Or use the mod extracting ore from rocks and gravel.

Do not use near planets! otherwise, the game gets stuck.
Safety distance for use is usually more than 90 km counted from the atmosphere.

Thats cool I will stil use these in my older worlds with now panets Thanks for the information.

No, anything above stock range on planets does not work. I think the ore detector does ray tracing in a full 360 degree sphere around the ore detector, so with all the voxels from the terrain, its simply to much to handle. The max range ones work well in even a heavily populated asteroid field. You might notice a small pause or stutter, but nothing more.

So to reiterate, anything above 150m on a planet is a pure no go. :(

I Tried to do this with the small block version for planetary surveying but any range I tried above a few extra meters caused my game to freeze up, are you able to use these on planets. I hate having to fly so close to the ground tyring to find ore deposits, I almost always crash into something.

memory leak FTW :D
