Still stick trying to import the (proper) decal.fbx. Is there a tutorial on this by chance? I'm sure I'm just missing something simple.
Halfway to resolving my problem. I had accidentally converted to *.obj format instead of using the *.fbx. I'm still getting invisible props though. I tried it with the template *.png images, and I came closer to having a proper decal, but I'm still not quite there.

Screenshot of my issue here.

I can't seem to import decal.obj. It doesn't load, and I have no clue how to troubleshoot this further. When I click continue, I just get an invisible prop. Anyone know why this might be happening?

@boformer First off, thanks for this brilliant solution! However, I'm having difficulty making this work. I've downloaded the template, but I'm stuck in the asset editor. It simply won't import for some reason. I'm a bit of a noob, but I'd really like to build some custom decals for my first props. Seems like it should be easy enough.

I dont think so

@boformer
Thanks for your work and guide! Can I use other textures? (_n,_i,_s)
ah ok that makes sense, I suppose thats not too heavy a solution but the current sized decals are still pretty damn huge and very useful. Maybe something else will come up that warrants it, or maybe even the sub-buildings mod can add support for decals to save on extra modules.
The mod does not exist yet. It would work similar to sub-buildings enabler.
Thanks :D I can hardly wait to try it out, should make perfect coral reefs, and rocky outcroppings on terrain, lots of things decals are perfect for. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Might be worth it for huge decals, which mod is needed? or is this a custom one you've made?
Also, texture size should always be a power of 2 (128, 256...)
To create your own ground textures, you will first of all need the textures:

1. A diffuse texture (decal_d.png)
2. Alpha texture (grayscale, decal_a.png)

Then you will need a simple 3d model. It is always the same one: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/imjkt0idf7sazx7/AAD0zNgVwSDqCyMJKBlx-Dh2a?dl=0

You put all the files into the Import folder and load them into the asset editor.

Then you have to run a little script with Mod Tools (by Bloodypenguin) that converts the prop into a decal prop: https://gist.github.com/boformer/eead42035bac7862081f

Looks like it's still not possible to create larger decals without a mod that is installed permanently.
I love these! I want to make some coral reef decals unless you're planing on it soon? Did you ever get around to sharing the file for the larger decals, or even the 8x sized one? Is there a guide or a post somewhere with info on making these and the model?

Good job boformer ! I am using almost all your assets/mods
I finally found out how to create decal props of any size! More great stuff is coming soon.

Excellent work !!

Oh, thank you @boformer for taking the time to make these assets !!! :)

Just added the requested ground textures.

So , tell us the secret, what's inside that little .crp file?. And UV mapping/editing in Sketchup maybe is tricky, but Blender? at this point in my life, nooooo ... And either way, I'm not a 3d moder and will never be, but a person who always use AutoCAD, Sketchup is really frendly (it's almost the same but in 3D) ... and finally in this game this textures you are creating are more interesting than all the skycrapers on the workshop. So thumb up @boformer.
And to produce textures like this, you don't have to model.
I can only warn you. Sketchup produces unoptimized models, and UV editing is a pain. Better get started with Blender.
Thanks @Breeze, send me a PM anytime you want. And yes, a YouTube video making a simple asset :)
I modeled in SketchUp. Also mapped. And to convert the file. End
There is no rendering.
Key points. The file conversion. skp-> obj-> fbx

It is just to learn SketchUp. Everything in SketchUp. Modeling and mapping.
The value of the option to convert the file, I'll tell you. anytime.

I learned one months SketchUp. I learned the basics. You really like it, challenge it. SketchUp video? In the YouTube. :)

I'll tell you how to convert.

And I don't have to much free time to learn (and patience, lol). There's no tutorial video on the web just showing how to make a simple asset entirely in Sketchup. There's one made by LucasK336, but I think it's deprecated. Btw I figured out how to put a prop in the residential ground menu, where the tiles are and also this textures. Just had to grab Mods Tools instead of UI Category changer mod, etc. Anyway, if you could help that would be great, and i just want to make simple things like this tiles. Maybe a guide, or a video tutorial on how to get ready an asset in Sketchup.? Thank you my friend :)
Oh, thanks @Breeze. Sketchup is a handful program and easy to use. You know that I'm a civil engineer and I got stuck with AutoCAD 2D, lol. But with Sketchup is so easy modeling 3d, but the problem is when comes the time to render, get the difusse, specular etc, maps. I apply textures in sketchup but when I have to make the UV mapping I don't know excactly what pluggin to use. Like the Cities Skylines pluggin by ThomThom, it's awesome, it made all for you, but you can apply only one texture, and the UV mapping tools, I don't understand yet a lot of things on how to exactly use these.
@agusingnavy
Are you learn SketchUp? I make with SketchUp. If you learn SketchUp I can help. :)
Thanks again bo! :)

Oh, thanks @boformer. Just this 2: http://www.textures.com/download/floorherringbone0097/39719
http://www.textures.com/download/floorsregular0204/21948
I don' know which 3D software you are using, but in the 3d scketchup warehouse there are tons of really good textures, but i don't know yet how to render in sketchup. And which is the category of this tiles/textures in CS? As @sepij said, you could write a guide on how to make this little awesome assets. And last this page https://www.arroway-textures.ch have good textures and came with specular and bump channels, but i don't know if it's useful for you. Anyway, thanks so much.
is there a guide how to make this ?
Look for some nice textures on textures.com and post the links. I will create some for you.
"Don't forget to rate the collection", ok, rated (up), faved, and subscribed to all of them, except the crime one, I don'tl like blood ;). Since you're doing this stuff, have you in mind some clay and (or) brick texture props, just to build some regular parks. I'm bored of the vanilla tiles, the blue and the brown, I don't remember the names. Good assets @boformer.
