Now there's an idea. I'd imagine a good coder can be a "career modder" through patreon. A lot of indie games could use an outside dev creating new mechanics and essential fixes, and could be croud funded.
It's been a SUPER long time since i made mods for this game or even played this game. This is totally free... Unless there's been some weird update I wasn't aware of this mod should be entirely free, without cost, play for free, etc.

Buildings you haven't been to however can still be scouted, though i find this somewhat unneccessary in my own gameplay as it just takes guards off guard duty and you can still send people to scavenge or kill zombies in that area and have them do the job well. I don't see much differences in scouting the area first or going in blind. And in the event there are survivors in the building you're going to scout or do a mission in, the mission is cut short.
So in other words, scouting is up to you, this just lets you see the entire map.
