I just find to a little to cheap compared to vanilla items.
Coal spawns at the area border in a truck and is transported to the plant on your roads, the more chaos on your roads, the less reliable that is.

But you are totally right, and should the game ever actually handle this properly, I will even contemplate doing that. I'd love to add railway depot and storage, chutes, silos and assorted to this at some point, as an extra building even (custom coal freight station would still spawn cargo though, and not coal). But I actually tested this as first thing, when I made a custom freight station everything was extremely freaky. (meaning huge swalls of trucks would block the entire supply chain with coal). So until we get FAR superior ways to restrict what a train station does and doesn't do this would be good for looks, but horrible for the running of your city. (Sadly!)
