inst.components.sanity.penalty = 1 will remove all sanity. Forever.
inst.components.sanity.penalty = 0.5 will remove half the character's MAX SANITY, much like maxwell's shadow duelists etc.
So yeah, 0.25 means the sanity will cap at 75%.
Yeah.
-right click on DST in steam
-browse local files
-click "mods" then your version of "thevillager"
-navigate to "\scripts\prefabs\thevillager"
-open it with notepad (or notepad ++)
Go down to line 140
Remove "inst.components.sanity.penalty = 2" or replace the 2 with a 1
Incase you don't know how to fix^^
In thevillager.lua line 140:
inst.components.sanity.penalty = 2
WILL NOT WORK.
You are telling the game that, on a scale of 1 to to 10, you want to be 20. It makes no sense.
Sanity penalty isn't meant to work like this.
WHAT TO DO TO FIX IT:
inst.components.sanity.penalty = 1 will fix the mod and make it playable.
This "penalty" is designed to lower the sanity penalty anyway. However, you already have
"inst.components.sanity.rate_modifier = 1.2" Which increases sanity loss deom all sources anyway.
Hope this helped (yes, i'm a few YEARS late but it's better late than never) and I like the villaget ;P
Best of luck, ProtoStar

I'm so sorry but I couldn't get into coding this thing, it started crashing some time ago, and yet I still couldn't find a solution (IRL stuff is keeping me busy, and the other guy who helped me is actually in another country now, so he won't be able to help much) ! If anyone who reads this is willing to help/knows how to fix, I'd own you a lot!
sorry for the mistake

Oh, and as far as I know, you can still haunt things, can't you? Try having your friends to drop a amulet or a telltale heart, and try haunting it. Thanks for reporting the bug!
That's how his nose was in Animal Crossing.
Btw I'm making a Villager mod myself, but more towards the innocent Villager from the game.
