Found the problem to the gun being gray. The shiny-ness is tied to a shader option in the graphics menu. gotta turn it up to see it shine. Great mod, though!

I have the same problem as octopustv - the gun does not have a shiny silver texture, but rather a dull gray plastic-y looking finish
