Changes from rc1:
- Changed the custom .mp3 files to .wav, this does increase the filesize by 4mb, but I was having semi-consistent .mp3 decoding issues previously (sometimes the sounds didn't play).
- The knockout powerup movement speed bonus has been changed from +33% to +500%. In tests it showed that while the move speed bonus was headed in a good direction, it wasn't extreme enough to be useful. Now it should be, and also a bit goofier which is fun.
- Added in some small sightline blocking fences to mid. These don't break the major sightlines in the map but they do help you feel safer walking around in the middle area, which is important when there are a lot of things happening there.
- Made the screen shake that plays on 'special powerup round' less subtle. Should better represent the idea it's a special round. It's kinda a subtle change but it seems to help.
- Adjusted some clipping.
- Adjusted some textures.
- Adjusted some prop fade distances.

Good map for arena, plus should be a good arena map to play on with waterfalls, temples, lots of chock points, classes are more optional for what you want more then certain arena maps, sniper spots, a powerup spot(random?), and It need to be recommended to be a must arena map! Valve must bring this map to the official map selecton ASAP.

I remember playing the b4 version of this map as a 6v6 Arena:Respawn mode map back in 2014, several times. It would be awesome if Discovery could make it into the game. But as a standard Arena mode map... chances are slim. :-/
I wish Valve would be coaxed to add Arena:Respawn as an official gamemode.

Ya I tried making it a PD map actually but it proved to be too small for 24 players to be alive on at a time (arena thins the player count out quickly), and to redesign it to accomodate for that would mean stripping away a lot of existing detail (2/3 of the map). So, possible, but that's like 2 months of work, and I don't have that time.

I did add the extra special powerup round in at least so it should spice up the gameplay enough. Also arena_byre successfully got in-game in Invasion, so it's still possible. Anyway you're probably right. :kindofgood:

I've played this map before and looove it. I think it'd be perfect for the Mayann community project. Why not make a koth version and include it in? Would be amazing to have this become a stock map!

@PSI Through my experience there were reasons like "no respawns" and "teams split up a lot" that I was thinking were why some people didn't like arena, particularly new players. But since working on the deathmatch gamemode in my Watergate map I think it is mostly actually because a lot of players aren't good at deathmatch in this game, and arena mode tests your deathmatch skills.

tf_workshop_map_sync 454116880
which will place the map at:
tf/maps/workshop/arena_discovery_b4.ugc454116880.bsp

Currently hdr cubemaps seem to be buggy with workshop maps and so some models may be abnormally shiney.

@ih∆tetrolling, no, b4 isn't. The map has been pretty stable since b4 was released (august 2014) so I may release a 'release candidate' version fixing some small detail stuff, and with an included nav mesh too.
