Hi - To add things to the science grid without modifying base_grid.txt, the easiest way is just to make your edits in the grid editor, then rename the resulting base_grid.txt to something else (perhaps mfs_grid.txt) and then delete all the vanilla nodes. Helpfully, all the nodes you added should be at the bottom! You can find an example of this in my subsystem assortment, or you can accept my friend request and I can try and help more if you want.
