Can you get the various smiths around skyrim to equip these? It would make more sence than them equiping a mace.

are the hammers affected by the mace skill perks, or no?

Hammer: will generally have two heads [flat], may have a sharpened pick on the other end. Hammers are better at crushing Armor [plate or scale].
Mace: a ball on a stick with spikes. the spikes allow the mace to pierce things like armor/shields, causing major damage.
