@tina bean I'm out on the Lachlan River and there are heaps of Jacarandas here (we got one in the back yard)

Yeah, it's a very Australian thing for Jacaranda trees to bloom and drop flowers everywhere in the Summer. I've only ever lived in Sydney so I don't know if it's like this anywhere else, but we do have a childrens' song that goes "When the purple of the Jacaranda tree is here, Christmas time is near" or something like that.
I never realised they weren't actually native to Australia. Interesting.
